I agree... Especially when they require a bachelors as well as complete salary history. But, this salary does seem typical to an area like Indiana.
Here's the deal.. The sign industry does not have standards in place in which a professional person could bring home a decent salary. Being said, the environmental graphics and signage side of the industry does have such standards. I switched to the EGS side of signage some years ago and I can tell you that the salaries are much higher. If you have the experience, and are willing to put up with corporate politics and red tape, one could bring home close to six figures. I know this for a fact...
Want to make good money, think high-end.
I agree I will put my years of experience up against any "young gun" with a Bachelor’s degree any day. Like every other trade, you take some classes, get their degree, and you immediately are the expert in that field, and demand the salary you were told you are now worth.
There is NO SUBSTITUTE for experience. I would take an employee that has started from the bottom sweeping floors to get where he's at after years of working his trade before any higher education professional!
And even for Indiana the job description compared to the salary is just insulting. Then again maybe they will get their Bachelors Degree expert, and if he stays long enough, in 10 years or so they might get their money’s worth.
When will Sign Industry people figure out that our trade is the most diverse in industry. Not everyone can do this. Those of us with experience, knowledge, and pride in what we do are a rare breed. How many other trades require electrical certification, welding certification, repelling certification, crane operator certification, and fabricators certification!! Not to mention the electronics for message units.
Wake up sign professionals! We offer a necessary part of everyday business we are an essential part of the economic recovery!!
Couldn't agree with both you more....
I've been in this industry for over 15 years. Funny you mentioned it but I did begin sweeping floors after school. I've expereinced the various facets of the industry and worked very hard to learn as much as I could possibly absorb in each and every nook and cranny I've worked in.
Recently I quit a decent paying position with a firm based on the fact thier model of lowball bidding, never delivering ontime, and "loose" organization would eventually lead to thier collapse and the tainting of my reputation.
It's sad to see so many companies with a tremendous ammount of tallent on thier team squander away ethics, commitment to quality, and every other trait inherently part of a good company. It's even more sad to think about all of the work I put into being exceptionally good at what I do only to realize you both are correct.....
What a shame.
Off subject..... ST Media Group/Signweb.com truly doesn't understand how awful the design of the site is right now. It's almost as depressing as the above.

Wow... 35-45k. In this economy I bet there is a number of people willing to take that pay and put in the work.
Sure seems very low pay for the ammount of experience they're looking for.
What does everyone else think?
