SWEeP technology maximizes space so that a longer track doesn’t require extra electronics for a new class of reflective, outdoor-compatible, large-area displays.

Tred Displays Corp. (Albuquerque, NM) recently tested a large-area, ePoster display that uses Scanning Writable Erasable ePoster (SWEeP) technology. The technology replaces a full, printed-circuit-board backplane with a sweeping writehead behind the display to update the Tred faceplate. Instead of taking up 6 ft. of electronics in a 6 ft. sign, all the electronics now fits in the first 6 in. Thus, the track can be lengthened without adding electronics.
Tred is planning to launch a family of ePoster products in 2010. The initial demo displays full, ASCII text. The next generation of products will also support Chinese characters and simple graphics. EPosters, which are an alternative to LED displays and manual letterboards, can change a message in roughly two seconds. Modular sizes are 0.33 x 2.14m, 033 x 3.05m and 0.33 x 3.98m. Character height ranges from 152 to 272mm.
